Embroidery Sampler: An Embroidery Adventure

Fifteen years ago, Gayle designed this embroidery sampler quilt as a teaching tool to guide an aspiring machine embroiderer through the steps necessary to become an expert.
You will learn everything from how to hoop, what stabilizers to use, changing thread colors, using multiple software programs, and even using sewing accessories to enhance your embroidery designs.
The project is also quilt as you go, so you will be encouraged to try various machine quilting techniques throughout the year.
The class registration fee includes the OESD Design CD, Rugs to Riches by Linda Lee. These designs will be what we pull from each month for our project.
The monthly sessions start at 6 PM, where you will receive your instructions and download link for each month's block. This class is for all machine embroiderers regardless of the brand of sewing machine you have :)

Lesson 1: Monday, June 14 Learn how to Embroider a large and dense design with a fancy fill, plus use the BERNINA Eyelet attachment or other sewing enhancements. Finally you will learn how to use monofilament thread for simple outline quilting. |

Lesson 2: June 28 at 6PM Learn how to embroider patches and applique them for a 3D effect and master couching and fringe using your sewing machine. You will also learn how to stabilize material for delicate decorative stitching. Finally simple free-motion outline quilting. |

Lesson 3: Monday, July 15 at 6PM Learn how to hoop a singular design four times to create a motif, tying it all together with decorative stitches on your sewing machine with metallic thread. Then you will learn how to ruler work and micro stipple. |

Lesson 4: Monday, July 26 at 6PM Learn how to build your own motif right in your embroidery machine (In addition to other tips and tricks to having it stitch out in a jiffy)! You will also learn how to use the Wreath, Mirror Merge and Array tools in the BERNINA Embroidery Software 8. Finally some more quilting with your favorite free-motion technique. |

Lesson 5: Monday, August 9 at 6PM Learn how to multiple hoop a design that doesn't fit quite in your hoop. You will also get to see another application of the BERNINA Embroidery Software and other design tools. More Quilting with your favorite Free-motion quilting method. |

Lesson 6: Monday, August 23 at 6PM All of the skills you learned in Block 3 and 4 are put to good use for our largest block yet! Plus we will play around with pattern end and mirroring options on your sewing machine. Finally you'll get to stipple and straight line quilt with your favorite method. |

Lesson 7: Monday, September 6 at 6PM Wanna try a larger hoop? Now's the time to break out the Mega, Maxi and Jumbo hoop if you're a BERNINA owner. Don't seat it if you only have one hoop, we can make that work too. Plus we will quilt with metallic thread!!! We can feel the excitement already. |

Lesson 8: Monday, September 20 at 6PM Pick a hoop. This month's block can be hooped 9, 3, or 2 times depending on your hoop size. Plus we will free-motion couch, quilt and use experimental thread. Ooh... Can't wait! |

Lesson 9: October 4 at 6PM For those of you with super large space, this is a one hooper! Learn how to alter an embroidery design to create your own trapunto, quilt with decorative stitches, add sparkle hone your free-motion quilting skills. |

Lesson 10: October 18 at 6PM Lasso a portion of an existing embroidery design and save it as its own design, make your own entredeux insertion trim, free-motion couch and stipple quilt. Now breathe, we are in the home stretch... |

Lesson 11: Monday, November 1 at 6PM Use the Persian Bud design to create a raw edge covering for a beautiful frame to feature our latest embroidery motif creation. You will also use rulerwork quilting to add texture and class :) |
